Work experience
Sergio joined Jacobacci in 1991 after working for fifteen years with another prominent IP Firm in Milan and has been practising in Jacobacci since then, representing and advising a great number of Italian and foreign clients and acquiring great experience in trademark matters.
Sergio has been regularly attending a considerable number of INTA and ECTA conferences and established long-lasting professional relationships with IP lawyers and trademark attorneys in many countries, creating a stable and reliable network of trademark specialists in most countries.
Professional focus
Sergio has a vast experience in trademark clearance and pre-filing advice, filing, prosecution and maintenance of trademarks, both before the Italian Patent & Trademark Office (IPTO) and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). He has been handling a huge number of out-of Curt disputes and oppositions before OHIM and IPTO on behalf of Italian and foreign companies, and has successfully negotiated a number of out-of-court settlement agreements.
He handles and coordinates the worldwide enforcement of a number of important trademarks, cooperating with local attorneys at law, and has acquired a deep knowledge of legal and practical issues relating to trademark enforcement throughout the world. Sergio also devotes a significant part of his professional time to corporate culture - as far as trademarks are concerned.
Areas of expertise
Sergio manages trademark portfolios of many Italian companies operating in various fields and provides strategic and practical advice on IP related issues to multinational corporations as well as small and medium size Italian companies. He regularly provides strategic and practical advice to some major US companies on trademark issues in Italy. His activity includes trademark clearance, filing and prosecution both before IPTO and OHIM. Over the years he matured a solid experience of handling oppositions before OHIM and IPTO, on behalf of Italian and foreign companies, and has successfully negotiated out of court settlement and coexistence agreements in Italy and abroad.
Sergio regularly lectures at University IP courses and some of his articles have been published in international magazines.
