Protection of software and its component parts, such as algorithms, codes and interfaces, involves the use of more than one legal instrument, each of which protects a particular aspect of the program.
As a part of a processing or control procedure of a technical nature, algorithms are naturally protected as the subject of the patent for invention. The program codes, written in the language and compilation form adopted by the programmer, can be protected under copyright law.
Lastly, icons and graphic user interfaces can be protected through legislation covering designs and models.
