Francesca Meroni

Work experience

In the context of her MSc thesis, Francesca collaborated on a research project concerning the synthesis and characterization of chromophores for photovoltaic applications at the University of Milan. She also had the opportunity to work on a research project concerning the design and the synthesis of potential biologically-active molecules at the University of Cambridge, where she joined the group of Professor Steven V. Ley, one of the largest organic chemistry research groups in the UK.

Francesca started working in the IP field in 2014, gaining experience both in the private practice and in the corporate practice. She worked in a Swiss Patent Law Firm for four years, where she completed her professional training. Thereafter, she joined the IP Department of Solvay SA, a multinational company in the chemical field, where she worked for two years as in-house patent counsel.

Francesca joined Jacobacci & Partners in 2020.

Professional focus

Francesca deals with drafting and prosecution of Italian, European and International patent applications, as well as with opposition procedures before the European Patent Office, opinions regarding patentability, Freedom-to-Operate and validity of third parties’ IP rights.

Areas of expertise

Francesca’s main focus is on various fields of chemistry, chemical and materials engineering, where she acquired particular expertise in the fields of electrochemistry, materials and technologies for the manufacture of batteries and components thereof, polymeric materials, composite materials, polymers production, rubber and plastic processing, new chemical processes, improvement of existing processes, new chemical plants and revamping of existing plants. Francesca also developed expertise in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry, medical uses, pharmaceutical preparations, waste recycling, wastewater treatment, plants and apparatuses for the packaging industry and technical sportwear.
