Work experience

Before joining Jacobacci in 2009, Ignacio worked as an IP partner at Eversheds Lupicinio in Madrid. Ignacio has also been a visiting lawyer at Nixon Peabody, Boston and Taylor Wessing, London. He has practiced Intellectual Property law since 1990, representing and advising Spanish and foreign clients while acquiring significant experience in all IP-related matters, including patents, trademarks, designs, copyright and unfair competition, in both contentious and non-contentious matters. Ignacio regularly attends the major IP conferences around the world. He is the author of numerous publications and has lectured on Intellectual Property including positions as an IP professor at universities and post-graduate law schools. He is a frequent contributor to several IP magazines.

Ignacio has a broad range of experience in all kinds of IP rights, including clearance and pre-filing advice, filing and prosecution, as well as commercial advice on trademark issues, contractual matters, pre-contentious and contentious IP enforcement cases and anti-counterfeiting.

Areas of expertise

Ignacio is of counsel at Jacobacci’s Madrid office. He provides tailored strategic and practical legal advice to major US, European and Japanese companies on patent and trademark issues and other IP rights in Spain.
His professional activities currently focus on both patent and trademark litigation, as well as copyright, know-how, software and unfair competition Court cases, as an experienced litigator.
He also has significant experience handling oppositions before the SPTO, on behalf of Spanish and foreign companies, and has successfully negotiated out-of-court settlement and coexistence agreements, in Spain and abroad. In addition, he is very skilled in trademark clearance, and filing and prosecution of IP rights.
