We often hear about unitary patent, but what exactly is it? Currently patents in Europe are granted through the European Patent Office and have to be validated in many countries, European countries, and this requires a full or partial translation of the claims in some of these countries.

When the new system comes into force, the new system will be a new European patent that is granted with unitary effect, and this will be effective for a number of European countries that are also members of the European Union.
